PRACTICE 15: That's A Wrap For Spring Ball

Team Art

With the NFL Draft being hosted just a couple of blocks away – touted by some experts as the biggest single event in our city's history – UNLV's football team fought off breezy conditions to complete Spring Practice 2022 on Thursday morning.

Third-year head coach Marcus Arroyo met with the media following the final outing until camp opens in August.

UNLV also released an updated depth chart as of April 28. Note that it does not include any incoming players: POST-SPRING TWO-DEEP

ARROYO ON HOW SPRING WENT OVERALL:
"Good. I have enjoyed the maturation we've experienced as a program -- in a lot of areas. I think on and off the field. The team's gotten closer, they've improved. I think they've gotten bigger, stronger, faster. We've got 15 practices to turn on (and watch) and feel like we can move into summer and move into fall camp and teach off and have a good feel of who we are. We've some pieces that we'll add too. So, I think the investment was good. Excited about the competition and how things have come together."

WHAT'S NEXT?
"We move into recruiting now. These guys go into discretionary period through May. Coaches go on the road recruiting. We'll have evaluations here in the next week or so and kind of clean things up and put spring ball to bed. Then get on the road (in the offseason) really for the first time since we've been here."

WHEN DO THE NEW GUYS GET HERE?
"Beginning of June is when the summer session starts (at UNLV) and that will be the first opportunity to get the last wave of guys in. We're hoping they all get here in June."

ANY SPRING STANDOUTS?
"The wide receiver group is collectively more competitive and improved. I think the quarterbacks did a heck of a job competing all spring. I like what the D-line is doing with Coach Bojay (Filimoeatu). I like AJ (linebacker Austin Ajiake) leading the heart of the defense. Defensive backs gelling together more was a big thing. All around I'm excited about seeing the growth at every position."

ON HOSTING A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF POTENTIAL RECRUITS DURING SPRING:
"We've really ramped that up. We've had a huge group of visitors – hundreds over the last month. It's a huge piece for people to see who we are, how we coach, what we look like, what the building looks like, the infrastructure. Seeing the commitment the athletic department and the city have made to our university and program is something that they've been blown away by. I think they now understand why so many of us came here from the places we came from. I think they're seeing the rising Rebels and are excited about it."
