Runnin' Rebels Conclude Canada Trip With 91-70 Win Over UFV

UNLV used a 17-0 run in the fourth quarter to pull away Friday night in an exhibition game in Abbotsford.

ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team used a 17-0 fourth-quarter run to pull away from University of the Fraser Valley and win its exhibition game 91-70 Friday night at the UFV Athletic and Recreation Centre.

The Runnin' Rebels had four players in double-figure scoring, led by Jackie Johnson III's 20 points. Luis Rodriguez added 16, while Keshon Gilbert and Keyshawn Hall each contributed 13.

It was UNLV's third and final game of its Canadian tour and marked its second win.

TURNING POINT: After the Cascades cut their deficit to three points at 72-69 with just under seven minutes to play, UNLV used a quick 5-0 spurt from a Johnson 3-pointer and a Hall basket to create immediate separation. The Runnin' Rebels ended up outscoring UFV 19-1 the rest of the game.

ON THE DEFENSIVE: After UFV cut it to three points, the Runnin' Rebels defense clamped down and didn't allow another Cascade field goal the rest of the game - a span of over six minutes. UFV's only point from then on was a free throw with 28 seconds left.

QUOTABLE: "Glad that we battled and competed. It was a great opportunity to get a lead, give it up, and then fight, scratch and claw to preserve the win. There are so many things that you get to learn on these trip - playing in different environments against somebody else, and when you have a new group like we do, you can't put a value to that. We now have great film and great examples to show the guys. We are really happy with the trip and everything that we learned out of it. " - UNLV head coach Kevin Kruger
