SATURDAY'S PREVIEW...
UNLV (2-1/0-0) heads out to face defending Mountain West champion Utah State (1-2/0-0) in what will be the conference opener for both teams on Saturday ... UNLV will be looking to earn a third win in its first four games of a season for only the third time since the start of the Mountain West in 1999 (2003 and 2008) ... The Rebels, who are 13-27 all-time in conference lid-lifters, look to win their MW opener for the first time since 2017 ... The Rebels are coming off a 58-27 win over North Texas on Saturday while the Aggies enjoyed a bye ... UNLV's win gave it back-to-back home victories in the same season for the first time since taking its first two at Sam Boyd Stadium in 2018 ... Through Week Three of the season, UNLV and Bowling Green are the only two schools in the nation to have at least nine different players who have recorded at least 1.0 QB sack ... The Rebels boast the nation's top TD man as Louisville grad transfer RB and this week's MW Offensive Player of the Week
Aidan Robbins is tied with three others in the FBS with seven total scores (six rushing, one receiving).Â
REBELS vs. AGGIES NOTES...Â
This marks UNLV's first visit to Logan since 2018 ... USU leads the all-time series 18-7 and has won six straight over the Rebels ... These programs first staged a home-and-home series back in 1971 & '73 and later played 13 times as Big West Conference (originally PCAA) rivals from 1983-95 ... The Rebels and Aggies have played some of the closest contests in UNLV history as 12 of the 25 games were decided by a touchdown or less, including three by just one or two points ... UNLV lists three players from the state of Utah on its current roster: DL
Waisale Muavesi from Provo's Timpview HS, OLB
Elijah Shelton from Salt Lake City and walk-on RB
Andrew Wimmer from South Jordan ... Shelton played in 15 games at USU from 2018-20 before transferring to Utah in 2021 and then joining the Rebels this season ... Two Rebel assistants spent time at USU: first-year defensive line coach
Bojay Filimoeatu is a 2012 graduate of the school and started two years at LB for the Aggies before coaching USU's OLB in 2019-20, while second-year OL coach
TJ Woods had two stints in Logan: 2007-12 and 2019-20.
