LOGAN, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's soccer team (2-7-1, 0-1-1) rallied with a late goal in the second half, but ultimately came up short in a 2-1 loss to Utah State (5-2-4, 2-0-0) Sunday afternoon at Chuck and Gloria Bell Field.
Facing a two-goal deficit, the Rebels received an 81st-minute goal from senior
Mimi Mendoza after being led with a nice pass by her Scarlet & Gray counterpart
Jules Dominguez to cut the score to 2-1. Mendoza, whose score marked her second of the season, nearly struck again for UNLV on the game's final play with a shot from the right side of the box that ended up being saved by Aggie goalkeeper McKenzie Hunninghake as time wound down.
In spite of the Scarlet & Gray's late scoring chances during the last 10 minutes of play, the Aggies' pair of first-half goals at the fourth- and 10th-minute marks proved to be enough of a cushion in the final outcome.
UP NEXT: The Rebels will continue their four-game Mountain West road trip with stops at Fresno State on Thursday, Sept. 29, and San Jose State on Sunday, Oct. 2.
