FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's soccer team (3-7-1, 1-1-1) claimed a 2-1 win over Fresno State (0-8-3, 0-2-1) for its first victory of Mountain West play Thursday evening at Bulldog Stadium.
The Rebels jumped to a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute, as freshman
Mallie Ramirez - who hails from neighboring town Clovis, California, which sits about 10 miles away from Bulldog Stadium - scored her first career goal on a header by the right post off the cross from senior
Alysa Caso. In the second half, the Scarlet & Gray pulled ahead 2-0 at the 56-minute mark when senior captain
Jules Dominguez scored on a missile from the top of the 18 after being assisted by her Rebel counterpart
Mimi Mendoza.
In spite of a persistent Bulldog squad that found the net in the 76th minute - and launched 11 shots in the match - UNLV held strong to turn away the late comeback attempt. Anchoring the Rebel defense, sophomore
Riley Liebsack grabbed her third win of the season after making four saves in the contest.
