LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Host UNLV won two of its three doubles matches during Friday's opening day at the elite Freeman Memorial Championships being held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
 
The 20th annual event features individual competitors from five teams ranked in the top 20 in the season's initial ITA rankings -- No. 8 Stanford, No. 10 Pepperdine, No. 13 Oklahoma State, No. 16 UCLA and No. 18 Florida – along with the host Rebels.
 
UNLV's Cindy Hu and Coco Zhao combined for a 6-2 win over Emma Shelton and Sophie Williams of Florida while Salsa Aher and Nina Zdravkovic won 6-1 over UCLA's Caroline Goldberg and Anne-Christine Lutkmeyer.
 
In singles play, Zhao was the only Rebel to notch a win, downing Goldberg, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, to advance to Saturday's semifinals in her draw.
 
Day two of the Freeman starts with doubles at 10 a.m. Saturday. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
