UNLV Records Eight Top-Five Finishes At Cougar Classic

SPOKANE, Wash. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team collected a total of eight top-five finishes at the Cougar Classic hosted by Washington State at the Podium in Spokane, Washington. The Scarlet & Gray competed against Mountain West foe Fresno State, as well as Pac-12's Washington State, Oregon and USC and Big Sky's Idaho and Montana State.

Sophomore standout AnnaKay Maitland kicked off the season with a fifth place finish in the women's 60m dash with career best of 7.45, only 0.25 seconds away from first place Jadyn Mays running for Oregon. Maitland earned her spot in the finals heat with a second place finish in prelims with a 7.52, just 0.02 seconds from USC's Jassani Carter.

Jaida Lyles led the Rebels in the women's mile with a third place finish and a time of 5:31.34, Isabella Schrader followed in fourth with a career best of 5:36.14 and Stephanie Zamora took fifth with a time of 5:56.39. 

Rounding out the top-five finishes for the Rebels were newcomer Endya Scott who placed fourth in the women's 400m run (57.20) and sophomore Erin Thompson who recorded a career best in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.68m (5-06.00). Sophomore Aitza Romero ran a career best in the 800m run, earning second place with a time of 2:25.27, followed by Schrader in third (2:35.92).

NEXT TIME OUT: The Rebels will continue their 2023 indoor season campaign when they hit the road for the University of New Mexico for the New Mexico Collegiate Classic February 3-4 held at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
