Ruiz Leads Rebels Day One Of New Mexico Team Open

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team finished strong during day one of the New Mexico Team Open Friday afternoon at the Albuquerque Convention Center. The Scarlet & Gray are competing against Mountain West rivals San Jose State and host New Mexico, Pac-12's Washington State and Cal and a handful of other teams across the West Coast.

ON THE TRACK
Sophomore distance standout Natalia Ruiz secured the women's 3000m run title with a time of 10:11.33, almost 11 seconds faster than second place, followed by junior LaKyla Yazzie who finished ninth with a season-best of 11:01.04.

Sophomores AnnaKay Maitland and Kennedi Porter finished fifth and sixth in the women's 200m dash with times of 24.13 and 24.26, respectively. Sophomore Aja Melo-Powell finished 18th overall in the women's 200m unseeded event with a time of 25.80.

ON THE FIELD
Freshman Camryn Harris led the Rebels in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.07m (16-07.75), followed by graduate student Aaliyah Graves with a mark of 4.92m (16-01.75).

Sophomore Erin Thompson finished ninth overall in the women's high jump with a final mark of 1.61m (5-05.25). Sophomore Madelynn Wattles finished in the top 30 for the women's weight throw with a final distance of 14.23m (46-08.25).
