Santana Wins Shot Put To Close Out New Mexico Team Open

With a mark of 17.53m, Rosa Santana now holds the program record and the national record for the Dominican Republic.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team closed out the final day of the New Mexico Team Open Saturday afternoon at the Albuquerque Convention Center. The Scarlet & Gray competed against Mountain West rivals San Jose State and host New Mexico, Pac-12's Washington State, Washington and Cal and a handful of other teams across the West Coast.

ON THE FIELD
Junior Rosa Santana started off the day off strong for the Rebels by winning the women's shot put event with a career best mark of 17.53m (57-06.25), second place was more than three meters behind Santana with a mark of 14.44m (47-04.5). 

ON THE TRACK
Sophomore Kennedi Porter ran a career best in the finals of the women's 60m dash, finishing second overall with a time of 7.46. Junior Endya Scott finished sixth in the women's 400m dash with a personal best of 56.36. Junior LaKyla Yazzie placed ninth overall in the women's one mile run with a personal best of 5:28.21.

Junior Isabella Schrader led the Scarlet & Gray in the women's 800m run with a time of 2:26.39, followed by freshman Abigail Danlag who ran a 2:37.16.

The 4x400m relay consisting of Alia Scott, Jana Lakner, Porter and Scott placed third with a time of 3:49.48.

NEXT TIME OUT:  UNLV will return to the Albuquerque Convention Center for the Don Kirby Elite Invitational, a two-day contest held February 10-11.
