RENO, Nev. – The UNLV volleyball team (12-7, 4-3 Mountain West) kicked off their weekend on the road, the team's first of two matches this weekend against UNR on Thursday Night. The Wolfpack ran hot and overran the Rebels, winning in five sets on a 3-2 final score.
UNR won 16-25, 25-23, 25-19, 22-25 and 15-11 in the back-and-forth battle, both teams amounting to 54 kills and 69 digs each. The Rebels were held to a hitting percentage of .172 while UNR held a .182 rate.
Junior
Livvy Setla led the Rebels with a handful of career-high marks, registering 20 digs to lead the team,
Isabel Martin (14) and
Arien Fafard (12) behind her with double-digit numbers in the statistical category. Setla's career-high five service aces in the contest helped push the team to a season-high 13 team aces, three different student-athletes also registering multiple pins against the Wolfpack on the serve.
The Rebels picked up their second-straight game of 20 or more blocks in their Thursday night match,
Jordyn Freeman headed the front line with six block assists. Martin served as the only player on UNLV's side to hit double-digit kills at 15,
Chloe Thomas and
Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos each earning nine in the Rebels' attack.
Arien Fafard led the team with 25 assists in the match,
Jenna Howard posting 19.
UNR's Nicanora Clarke led the team with 18 kills, also holding the team's best hitting percentage at .342 off of 38 attempts. Tehya Maeva posted her seventh game of the year with 30 or more assists with 36 against the Rebels, Hikialani Kaohelaulil topping UNR's back line with 21 digs in the match.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will look to bounce back against Fresno State, traveling farther west to California for a Saturday afternoon battle against the Bulldogs. That match will kick off at 1:00 p.m. PT on Saturday, Oct. 14 in the Save Mart Center, located in Fresno, Cali.
