LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's soccer team won its third straight match with a 1-0 shutout victory over Utah Tech Thursday evening at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
Freshman
Bryce Allred scored the contest's deciding goal in the 41st minute as the Rebels (5-5-2) improved to 3-1 in WAC play with the result against the Trailblazers (6-6-0, 2-2-0).
In the 41st minute, Allred converted his first career goal as he sent a rocket of a shot into the upper left corner of the net from the top of the 18. The Rebel newcomer's score followed a double assist from
Hermann Ragnarsson on a ball played to
Tyler Ware, who then found Allred with a few yards of space before the eventual game-winner.
Along with the win streak, freshman goalkeeper
Hugo Lemos and the Scarlet & Gray backline earned their second clean sheet in the last three outings. Lemos recorded three saves on all three of Utah Tech's shots on goal to pick up his fourth win of the season and second shutout.
QUOTABLE: "It's important to get points when you're playing for a spot to get into the WAC Tournament. I think we could have performed better in the second half and kept the ball better. For us, it's always a goal to get better each day, so that's something we can improve on. But overall it was a good, gritty performance and I'm pleased with the result."
-UNLV Head Coach BJ Craig
UP NEXT: Another home doubleheader awaits the Rebels on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. when they take on Utah Valley.
REBEL NOTES:
- This marks the Rebels' best start to WAC play since 2017 when they began the conference slate 4-1.
- Allred becomes UNLV's sixth player to net his first career goal during the 2023 campaign. He joins seniors Brophy Howard and Theo Minard, junior Cesar Carbajal, as well as fellow freshmen Kai Merrill, Hermann Ragnarsson and Ware in that group.
