LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's swimming and diving team appeared among the teams receiving votes in the 2023 Preseason College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division I Top-25 poll released Friday.
Out of 32 teams that received votes, the Rebel men's squad ranks 29th on that list with eight points.
The Scarlet & Gray is coming off seven top-3 men's individual finishes in its season-opening meet at No. 1 Arizona State, including junior
Adnan Beji's first-place sweep of the 100 and 200 breast.
REBELS ON THE NCAA TOP-TIMES LIST: The Rebels have several individual marks that rank among the top-25 fastest on the NCAA top-times chart. Headlining those are Beji at No. 3 in both the 100 breast (52.98) and 200 breast (1:56.05), junior
Bryson Huey at No. 3 in the 50 free (19.60) and well as senior
George Ratiu at No. 7 in the 100 free (43.21) and No. 8 in the 50 free (19.78). Rounding out those marks are freshman
Wikus Potgieter's 12th-ranked 100 back (47.04) and 20th-ranked 200 back (1:45.76), Huey's 19th-ranked 100 free (43.94), junior Mike Breitbart's 20th-ranked 200 breast (2:00.36), freshman
Hayden Lambert's 20th ranked 1000 free (9:15.72) and senior Cam Castro's 24th-ranked 200 free (1:37.31).
REBEL RELAYS AMONG NCAA'S BEST: In addition to their individual leaders, the Rebel relay squads have times that hover inside the top 10 in the country. Those include the Scarlet & Gray's 200 free relay team (Ratiu, Butler, Esenwien, Huey) with a time of 1:19.54 and 400 medley relay quartet (Potgieter, Beji, Ratiu, Castro) with a time of 3:09.43.
