SAUCIER, Miss. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's golf team finds itself among the top half of the team standings in sixth place following the first round of the Fallen Oak Collegiate on Sunday at Fallen Oak Golf Club (par 72, 7,487 yards).
Leading the Rebels, who shot a 3-over, are junior
Trevor Lewis and freshman
Hogan Park in a tie for 19th at even-par 72 through the first 18 holes. Also ending the day inside the top 25, their Scarlet & Gray counterpart in senior
Ben Sawaia shot a 1-over 73 to end the round tied for 25th.
Behind its leading trio, the Scarlet & Gray saw seniors
Caden Fioroni (+2) and
Yuki Moriyama (+3), sophomore
Brett Sawaia (+4) finish the day tied for 32nd, 44th, and 55th, respectively.
One of three co-hosts, alongside Ole Miss and Southern Mississippi, No. 10 Mississippi State leads the 12-team field at 12-under with a six-shot lead over No. 1 Auburn in second. Conversely, the Bulldogs' Hunter Logan (-5) jumped to an early lead shared with Ole Miss' Michael La Sassa (-5) in a tie for first.
