BOISE, Idaho – The UNLV volleyball team (12-10, 4-6 Mountain West) traveled north to Boise State (11-9, 7-3) on Saturday morning, taking on the Broncos in Bronco Gym. The Rebels traded punch-for-punch against their opponent, but fell short of the victory in the 3-1 loss.
Boise State won 25-23, 23-25, 27-25 and 25-23. In one of their closest matches of the year, the Rebels performed a combined hitting percentage of .290 compared to the Broncos' .300. UNLV had the edge on Boise State in committing errors, the Rebels only holding 17 compared to their opponent's 19.
UNLV featured three student-athletes with double-digit kills, eight players tallying at least one kill on the way to a combined 59 in the match.
Isabel Martin led the way with 18 of her own,
Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos hosting 12 kills and
Chloe Thomas holding 10.
Jordyn Freeman held the best hitting percentage on the team (minimum five attempts) with seven kills, hitting .583 in the match.
Caleigh King recorded her third game of the season with 19 or more digs in a single game, leading the team with 19.
Martin and
Arien Fafard also reached double-digit totals in the way to UNLV's 58 team digs in the match, both recording 10 each. Fafard led the team in a handful of other statistical categories on Saturday, serving as the front runner in assists (45) and service aces (3). Freeman and Thomas represented the front line in block assists for the Rebels, the former totaling five with the latter holding four on the way to the team's 12.
Boise State was led by Annie Kaminski with 17 kills in the match, Chey Day and Anabel Kotzakov each recording 12 as well. Day also headed the Broncos in blocks, recording the match's only solo block and recording three block assists as well. Three student-athletes recorded double-digit digs for the team, including Breanna Mitchell (19), Noelani Helm (14) and Paige Bartsch (11).
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will head back to Las Vegas and prepare for next week's pair of matches, first taking on Air Force on the road. That match in Cadet East Gym will start at 5 p.m. PT in USAF Academy, Colo., on Thursday, Oct. 26 before traveling out to New Mexico on Saturday, Oct. 28.
