Volleyball Claims Revenge On Lobos In Road Match

Jordyn Freeman and Arien Fafard both hit career-best marks in the strong 3-1 win over New Mexico.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After a strong showing earlier this week against Air Force, the UNLV volleyball team (14-10, 6-6 Mountain West) picked up a second-straight victory on Saturday after a match against New Mexico. Jordyn Freeman tied her career-high in total blocks after picking up a season-high mark in UNLV's last match, earning a double-double in total blocks (10) and kills (11) on the way to the Rebel win.

The Rebels found their rhythm in the back-half of the match, winning on a final line of 23-25, 25-22, 25-13 and 25-16. UNLV's stellar defense kept the Lobos without much offensive pressure after the first set, holding them under a hitting percentage of .100 in set two (.03) and set four (.00).

UNLV posted a quality spread on the attack with four student-athletes registering double-digit kills in the match. Isabel Martin led the way with 17 of her own, followed by Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos' 14, Dakota Quinlan's 12 and Freeman's 11. Martin's kills matched with her digs for a double-double of her own, claiming 15 of the program's 57 digs in the match. Isha Knight remained as the only other player with 10 or more digs in the match, tallying 12 over the course of four sets.

Arien Fafard continued to find clean looks for the Rebels, totaling a career-high 50 assists in the four-set win. The senior also picked up nine digs and three total blocks in the team's defensive efforts while also putting together a pair of service aces. Alyssa Muraoka led the Rebels in serving on Saturday, totaling four service aces. UNLV received the ball well of the serve en route to their victory, only allowing two New Mexico service aces that marked the sixth game this season where they've allowed two or less in the statistical category.

The Lobos had two student-athletes with double-digit kills in Uxue Guereca (12) and Kali Wolf (10), registering 38 kills and 25 errors in 125 attempts. Giselle Groe marked as the only player with 10 or more digs in the match, registering 10 exactly.

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will look to extend their two-game win streak next week as they kick off a four-game home stand, first taking on Fresno State in Cox Pavilion. That match will kick off at 6:30 p.m. PT on Thursday, Nov. 2 before facing off against UNR on Saturday, Nov. 4.
