Rebels Fall To Bulldogs In Four Sets

Despite the Rebels holding a favorable hitting percentage against Fresno St. on Thursday night, the Bulldogs kept down UNLV to take the season series.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV volleyball team (14-11, 6-7 Mountain West) hosted Fresno St. (14-10, 8-5) on Thursday night in Cox Pavilion, the first of two games at home this weekend. The Rebels would fall in the match to the Bulldogs on a 3-1 final score.
 
Fresno St. won 25-21, 25-21, 18-25 and 25-22 in the match, hitting a percentage of .272 on the night. The Rebels hit a higher percentage at .277, but owned 20 errors compared to the Bulldogs' 16 in the match.
 
UNLV spread their attack with three different student-athletes with double-digit kills, Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos leading the Rebels with 17 to hit .308 on the night. Isabel Martin finished the match with 14 and Chloe Thomas totaled 10 as well, stemming from Arien Fafard's 44 assists. The senior setter also compiled 12 digs in the match for the Rebels, Isha Knight leading the team with 13 of the team's 51 digs for the match. Dakota Quinlan led the defense's front line in the contest with five block assists, her fourth game out of the last six where she registered four or more total blocks in a single game. Jordyn Freeman registered UNLV's lone solo block in the game.
 
Fresno St. featured two Bulldogs with double-digit kills, Ella Rud and Jenna Legault each holding 14. Dionii Fraga led the team with 14 digs out of the team's 51 in the match, Rud (13) and Brooke Cowie (11) also held double-digit performances in the statistical category. Fresno St. also totaled six different players with at least one service ace on the Rebels, Grace Doyle and Rud each having two.
 
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will look to bounce back Saturday on their home court, hosting the inner-state rival UNR to cap the weekend of matches. The second and final volleyball game in the Silver State Series presented by the America First Credit Union will kick off at 1 p.m. PT in Cox Pavilion, also dualling as Women's Day and Alumni Day.
