Rebels Storm Back For 2-1 Win At Air Force

Freshmen Hermann Ragnarsson's and Lucas Gélébart's goals in the final eight minutes help the Rebels overcome a one-goal deficit

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's soccer team stormed back from a one-goal deficit with two goals in the final eight minutes en route to a 2-1 win over Air Force Sunday afternoon at Cadet Soccer Stadium.

In response to the Falcons' (0-11-1, 0-3-0) 73rd-minute goal, the Rebels (4-5-2, 2-1-0) used an 83rd-minute equalizer by freshman Hermann Ragnarsson and 87th-minute game-winning goal by freshman Lucas Gélébart to claim their second straight victory.

Gélébart tapped in both the first goal and game-winning score of his career on a putback after Nico Lopez's penalty kick was saved by Air Force goalkeeper Josh Spence. This followed Ragnarsson's second goal of the season from 13 yards just under four minutes earlier as he made a quick spin to get his foot on a precise cross from his freshman counterpart Tyler Ware.

Anchoring the Scarlet & Gray backline, freshman goalkeeper Hugo Lemos grabbed his second consecutive victory and third of the year in the contest. He finished with one save in 90 minutes as the Rebels deterred eight of the Falcons' nine shots.

UP NEXT: The Rebels come home for a pair of doubleheaders with women's soccer next week, starting with a match Thursday at 8:30 p.m. vs. Utah Tech. A pregame tailgate with free food and drinks will be hosted by the UNLV Soccer Foundation prior to the women's soccer team's 6 p.m. match vs. San Diego State.

REBEL NOTES:
  • This marks the Rebels' first 2-1 start to WAC play since the 2017 season.
