LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's basketball team downed Utah Tech 100-67 on Tuesday night at Cox Pavilion in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Lady Rebels notched a new program record in made three-pointers shooting 16-for-33 as a team.
The Lady Rebels (3-0) had four different players in double-digits including
Desi-Rae Young who led the squad with her 38th career double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Alyssa Durazo-Frescas added 17 points and shot 50% from the field (5-for-10) and 50% from the long range (5-for-10) and was perfect again at the free throw line (2-for-2).
Kiara Jackson and
Ashley Scoggin each collected 16 points. Jackson was 4-for-5 from the three-point line and Scoggin shot 6-for-10 from the field and hit 4-of-8 three-pointers.
Prior to tip-off, the Lady Rebels had a surprise champion ring presentation and unveiled their back-to-back champion banner.
The Trailblazers (2-1) had two players in double-digits and were led by Maddie Warren who had 20 points. Breaunna Gillen scored 15 points and had eight rebounds.
TURNING POINT: UNLV and Utah Tech exchanged the lead nine times and were tied five times, but the Lady Rebels went on a 10-point scoring run in the second quarter to go up by 12 and never looked back.
STAT OF THE GAME: The Lady Rebels forced 16 Trailblazer turnovers and capitalized scoring 23 points.
OTHER NOTES:
- The previous Lady Rebels' three-point record was 15 set on Dec. 21, 2020 vs. Loyola Marymount.
- UNLV had 10 steals compared to Utah Tech's 4.
- The Lady Rebels' bench was hot as UNLV led in bench points, 43-15.
- UNLV out-rebounded Utah Tech 43-35.
- The Lady Rebels led in fastbreak points 17-5.
- UNLV put up 34 points in just the third quarter and only allowed 19 by the Trailblazers.
UP NEXT: The Lady Rebels will finish the three-game non-conference home stand on Saturday, Nov. 18 hosting New Hampshire at Cox Pavilion. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
