AUSTIN, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's and women's swimming teams combined for 13 top-25 finishes on the second day of the Texas Invitational Wednesday at Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
- A day removed from a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay, the Rebel 'A' squad of freshman Wikus Potgieter, junior Adnan Beji, senior George Ratiu and junior Bryson Huey secured another third-place (3:08.07) finish in the 400 medley relay. They edged the host Longhorns' 'A' team by four-hundredths of a second and were within seven-tenths of a second of the program record.
- Earning the Scarlet & Gray's highest individual finishes, Huey and Ratiu finished fifth and sixth in the 50 free 'A' final of the 50 free, respectively. The duo also notched NCAA 'B' cuts with their times.
- Representing the Rebels in the 200 IM, junior Mike Breitbart (1:47.69) took 15th overall competing in the 'B' final and senior McKay Mickelson (1:49.70) placed 23rd. Each lowered their prelim times with season-best marks, while Mickelson matched his personal best.
- Also shining in the 50 free, senior Steven Butler reached the 'B' final and sophomore Charley Page-Jones competed in the 'C' final. Butler (19.95) sped to a 12th-place finish and Page-Jones (20.57) came in 24th.
- Another top-10 Rebel relay finish was provided by the 400 medley 'B' team of Mickelson, Breitbart, senior Cam Castro and Butler, who finished eighth (3:13.68).
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
- In the 200 IM, senior Ruby Howell's 16th-place finish with a season-best 1:59.72 as a 'B' final competitor led the way for three more UNLV top-25 finishes.
- Howell's senior counterparts in Calysta Bartlett (2:02.12) with a 20th-place finish and Blanka Bokros (2:02.13) with a 25th-place finish each chimed in with their own individual season-best times.
- Junior Pilar Cohen (23.08) paced the Rebel women in the 50 free 'C' final with a 21st-place overall finish behind her fastest time this season.
- In the 400 medley relay, the Scarlet & Gray 'A' squad of freshman Dominika Trentkiewicz, Bartlett, Bokros and Cohen (3:41.21) wrapped up their side's top-25 finishes in eighth with another season-best time.
