SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's basketball team defeated UC Santa Barbara, 68-49, on day one of The Dana on Mission Bay Thanksgiving Tournament at Jenny Craig Pavilion on Friday evening.
 
Alyssa Durazo-Frescas led the Lady Rebels (5-0) with 15 points shooting 5-for-10 from the field, 5-for-9 from long range and brought down five rebounds. Amarachi Kimpson and Desi-Rae Young each scored 10 points. Kimpson was 4-for-6 from inside the arc and had five boards. Alyssa Brown led the squad in rebounds with a season-high 12, while Kiara Jackson led the group in assists with six.
 
UC Santa Barbara (2-2) was led by Anya Choice with 12 points and shot 6-for-9 from the field.
 
HOW IT WENT DOWN: The Lady Rebels came out firing to start the game and went on a 10-0 run before the Gauchos got on the board with two free throws. In the second quarter, UNLV and UCSB went back-and-forth, but the Lady Rebels stayed in control and went into the break with an 11-point advantage, 37-26. Following the break, UNLV had a seven-point scoring run to increase its advantage to 18-points, 46-28. The Lady Rebels stayed focused and closed out the third quarter only allowing the Gauchos to put up seven points and head into the final frame with a 17-point lead, 50-33. In the final 10 minutes, UNLV added 18 more points and earned the victory.
 
OTHER NOTES:
- Young's 10 points tonight, puts her at 1,501 career points in a Lady Rebel uniform.
- UNLV out-rebounded UCSB 47-37.
- The Lady Rebels forced 13 Gaucho turnovers.
- UNLV dished out 15 assists.
- The Lady Rebels had 36 points in the paint.
