Alyssa Durazo-Frescas shot 8-for-11 from long range and marked a new single-game program record for made three-pointers as the UNLV women's basketball team dominated San Diego, 93-56, in the final game of The Dana on Mission Bay Thanksgiving Tournament on Saturday evening at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Frescas led the Lady Rebels (6-0) with 24 points, which ties her career-high and shot 8-for-11 from the field. She added three rebounds and a steal.
Desi-Rae Young was second on the squad in points with 18 and shot 9-for-16 and brought down six rebounds.
Alyssa Brown led the crew in rebounds with seven boards and had two blocked shots.
The Toreros (3-3) were led by Courtney Wristen and Harsimran Kaur who each collected 10 points.
CONTROLLED FROM THE START: After being tied 2-2 for nearly a minute in the first quarter, the Lady Rebels went on a 9-0 run and then a 10-2 run in the first quarter and held a double-digit lead after the first 10 minutes, 23-8. UNLV kept heating up and held a 32-point lead heading into half time. Following the half, the Lady Rebels continued to drain points and had a 78-41 advantage after the third quarter. UNLV added to its lead to close out the game with a huge victory.
SHOOTING PERCENTAGE: The Lady Rebels shot 50.0% (36 of 72) from the field for the game and 50.0% (11 of 22) on three-pointers. UNLV shot 53.8% (21 of 39) from the field in the first half and 45.5% (15 of 33) in the second, while they converted 50.0% (6 of 12) on three-pointers in the first half and 50.0% (5 of 10) in the second half.
The Toreros shot 41.7% (10 of 24) from the field in the first half and 41.4% (12 of 29) in the second, while they made no three-pointers in the first half and 45.5% (5 of 11) in the second half.
OTHER NOTES:
- The Lady Rebels out-rebounded the Toreros 42-24.
- UNLV forced 16 San Diego turnovers and scored 28 points.
- The Lady Rebels dished out 21 assists and were led by
Kiara Jackson with seven, which tied her career-high.
- UNLV had 50 paint points compared to San Diego's 24.
- This was the best shooting game from the three-point line thus far this season for the Lady Rebels.
- This is the second time in the
Lindy La Rocque era that the Lady Rebels have started the season 6-0.
