LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – Coming off the win over UNR last week, the UNLV volleyball team (16-11, 8-7 Mountain West) outpaced one of the top offensive teams in the conference on Thursday night in the 3-2 victory over Colorado State. Redshirt senior
Isabel Martin helped the team overcome the Rams with 34 kills in the contest, tying the program's single-game record while also setting a career high in the statistical category.
The Rebels took down the Rams (15-11, 9-6) in a true back-and-forth duel, posting a final line of 22-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-13 and 19-17. UNLV outhit their opponent for a fifth-consecutive game, posting a .359 hitting percentage compared to the Rams' .319 rate. The program's recent win keeps them one game ahead of Wyoming in the conference standings, sitting at sixth overall in the Mountain West.
UNLV's second-half surge on the attack helped carry itself over Colorado State, the team hitting .333 in the third set, .591 in the fourth and .429 to close out the game in set five. The program tallied 74 kills overall with Martin's 34 leading the team,
Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos ranking up 14 kills for her third double-digit kill match with a hitting percentage of over .500 in the season.
Dakota Quinlan found nine kills in her 19 attempts with
Jordyn Freeman batting six off 12 strikes.
Senior
Arien Fafard matched her career-high with a 50-assist performance in the five-set thriller, her second time in four games reached the half-century mark in a single match.
Isha Knight led the Rebels with 13 digs overall in the backline,
Alyssa Muraoka and Martin each claiming 11 to pitch into the team's 52 total digs in the match. UNLV racked up their 10th-consecutive match with double-digit block assists, Quinlan leading the team with four of her own along with the program's lone solo block of the contest.
The Rams featured four student-athletes with double-digit kills, Malaya Jones totaling 17 with Naeemah Weathers posting 12. Kennedy Stanford led the team with 15 digs in the match.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will aim to close out their final home match of the regular season on a high note, taking on the Wyoming Cowgirls on Saturday, Nov. 11. The match in Cox Pavilion will also run as the Rebels' Senior Day, the first serve starting at 1 p.m. PT with the program's four senior celebrations commencing after the game.
