Rebels Take Five Events On Second Day Of Invite

The trio of wins were part of UNLV's 35 top-8 finishes Monday

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams took five event victories as part of 43 top-8 finishes Monday in the UNLV Invitational at Jim Reitz Pool.

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
*Sophomore Erika Carlson continued her stellar week with her second win of the weekend, placing first in the 200 free (1:48.11). Another top-8 finish came from her sophomore teammate Marta Klimek (1:51.17) in sixth place.
*In the 100 fly, senior Blanka Bokros (53.93) picked up a victory of her own to lead a 1-2 Rebel sweep, with junior Cameron Mykkanen (54.52) coming in second. Senior Madison Petschauer (55.86) joined her Scarlet & Gray counterparts in the event's 'A' final with a sixth-place finish.
*Freshman Dominika Trentkiewicz (55.55) also competed in the 100 fly, earning a win in the 'B' final to finish ninth overall.
*In the 400 IM, freshman Ava Olson (4:21.85) finished second after dropping her prelims time by 3.72 seconds in the final. Her runner-up finish was accompanied by another UNLV top-8 effort from sophomore Hannah Jones (4:33.61) in fourth place.
*Reeling in three top-8 finishes in the 100 breast were senior Calysta Bartlett (1:02.58) in third, freshman Viola Teglassy (1:02.87) in fifth and Petschauer (1:03.87) in seventh.
*Senior Ruby Howell's (55.47) fourth-place effort and sophomore Averi Webb's (55.73) fifth-place outing paced the Rebels in the 100 back.
*UNLV put together top-5 finishes in the 200 medley relay. The 'B' squad (Webb, Teglassy, Mykkanen, Sullivan) notched a third-place time (1:41.21) and the 'A' team (Trentkiewicz, Bartlett, Bokros, Fernandez) posted a fourth-place time (1:41.50) shortly after.
*The Rebel relays produced third-place and fourth-place finishes once again in the 800 free relay. This time the 'A' team (Bokros, Carlson, Klimek, Miller) led the way in third (7:30.18) and the 'B' team (Olson, Sullivan, Jones, Cao) followed in fourth (7:32.80)
*The diving events saw senior Vika Yanovska win the 1-meter final (266.35) and finish fourth in the 3-meter springboard (242.60) final with NCAA zone qualifying scores.
*Freshman Chelsey Dorosh also posted NCAA zone qualifying scores en route to a fifth-place finish in the 3-meter final (242.55) and seventh on the 1-meter springboard (222.85).

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
*Junior Adnan Beji scored a win in the 100 breast with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 53.92 seconds to pace three Rebel top-8 finishes. He was followed in the event by freshman Nate Thomason (55.15) in third and junior Mike Breitbart (55.99) in fifth.
*The Rebels had four swimmers qualify for the 'A' final, which saw redshirt freshman Colby Raffel (3:51.73), freshmen Wyatt Miner (3:56.97) and Kyle Adamson (3:58.05) and senior Cooper Kiel (4:01.18) finish second, third, fourth and sixth, respectively. Raffel's mark moved him into eighth all-time on the Scarlet & Gray record list.
*Senior McKay Mickelson (4:00.05) took care of business in the 400 IM 'B' final, winning the heat and adding a ninth-place overall finish.
*Breitbart (49.46) gave the Rebels representation in the men's 100 fly, tying for seventh place.
*Finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 200 free were senior George Ratiu (1:38.27) and freshman Andrus Barcsak (1:38.93).
*Freshman Wikus Potgieter (47.95) added a second-place finish in the 100 back. His freshman counterparts rounded out the 'A' final in the event as Tatsuki Inoue (48.92) finished seventh and Evan Terry (48.97) touched in eighth.
*The Rebel 'A' relays deposited a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 medley relay (Potgieter, Breitbart, Butler, Ratiu) with a 1:26.91 and 800 free relay (Kiel, Barcsak, Raffel, Castro) with a 6:35.61.
*Additionally, the Scarlet & Gray 'B' relay squads took fourth in the 200 medley relay (Terry, Beji, Huey, Castro) with a 1:28.02 and fifth in the 800 free relay (Inoue, Huey, Mickelson, Lambert) with a 6:44.53.
*On the men's 1-meter springboard, freshman Ronan Robinson (273.60) and junior Dima Tereshchenko (244.50) finished sixth and eighth, respectively.
*In the 3-meter final, senior Jamie Spilchak (295.70) dove to fourth place, while Tereschenko (281.10) placed sixth and Robinson (276.60) took eighth.


UP NEXT: UNLV's home invite will conclude Tuesday with prelims at 9:30 a.m. PT and finals at 5 p.m. PT.
