LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV football head coach Barry Odom introduced a class of 22 scholarship student-athletes who have signed letters of intent to become Rebels during Wednesday's opening day of the early national signing period.
 
The class ranks first in the Mountain West according to Rivals and is sixth among all Group of Five schools according to 247Sports. No less than 21 signees earned at least one three-star rating from the four major outlets.
 
The latest additions, which are all from the high school level, are highlighted by a near-record total of seven locals from four different Las Vegas area programs (eight in 2009). Eight signees are expected to graduate early and join the program next semester in time for the second spring practice under Odom.
 
"We are excited to announce the signing of 22 high school student-athletes to our program," said Odom. "I am thankful for our assistant coaches and the entire organization for being very select and direct on the process of building this recruiting class. We were able to address and sign impactful players that fit our immediate needs by position. Our goal is to compete and win championships and we believe this recruiting class will help us get back to the Mountain West Championship game.
 
"We were able to sign seven kids from the city of Vegas. We are certainly excited about our brand and so appreciative of the local high school coaches and support we receive in our community," he said. "UNLV is a national brand with signees spread across four time zones. We know that this class will continue to put UNLV football on the national scene for years to come. There are a number of qualities and characteristics we look for in recruiting -- one of those is competitive spirit and with the 12 prospects in the class that competed in their respective state championship game, we can say we have a large group from highly successful, winning high school programs.
 
"These 22 signees will have an immediate impact in our locker room and our campus. We look forward to them joining our UNLV Family."
 
The overall class' position breakdown sees 11 offensive players, 10 on defense and one on special teams: 5 OL, 4 DB, 3 DL, 3 LB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 QB, 1 TE and 1 PK.
 
The 22-player group consists of student-athletes whose hometowns are spread among nine states: seven are from Nevada, three each are from California, Texas and Missouri, two are from Arizona, while one each is from Hawai'i, Kansas, Minnesota and Oklahoma.
 
The Rebels, who won nine games for the first time since 1984, will conclude their 2023 schedule by playing Kansas in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl in Phoenix on December 26. Ticket information is available at UNLVTickets.com.
