Softball Struggles In Saturday's Doubleheader

UNLV falls to Weber State, Baylor on second day of Rebel Kickoff

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — UNLV struggled to move baserunners as it dropped both contests of Saturday's Rebel Kickoff doubleheader at Eller Media Stadium.

UNLV (1-3) fell to Weber State, 4-0, before losing to Baylor, 9-1. The Rebels' lone score was a solo home run by April Visser.

The Rebel Kickoff concludes Sunday as No. 7 Arkansas faces Baylor at 9 a.m. That game is followed by UNLV versus Weber State before culminating with UNLV versus Southern Utah.

Game One: Weber State 4, UNLV 0
Mandy Johnson pitched a complete-game shutout for the Wildcats (1-3) in Weber State's 4-0 decision over UNLV.

McKell McCuiston's two-out, two-RBI double in the fourth put Weber State up 3-0, before Mika Chong scored McCuiston on a single to center field.

Game Two: Baylor 9, UNLV 1 (5 innings)
RyLee Crandall struck out seven of the 20 batters she faced as the Rebels stranded seven baserunners in Baylor's 9-1 run-rule victory.

Baylor (4-0) scored two runs in the first inning but then were held in check by UNLV starter Sabrina Jolin until the Bears third time through the order in the top of the fourth. Amber Toven smacked a two-RBI double past the defense in the left-center gap.

Visser slugged her first home run of the season three rows deep into the parking lot beyond Eller Media Stadium's left-field fence. But it would be the only offense UNLV could muster.

Three singles and a sacrifice bunt allowed four runs to come across in the top of the fifth to seal the victory for the Bears.
