Porter Leads Rebels During Day Two Of Conference Championship

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field program finished out day two of the 2023 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships with nine personal bests. 

The three-day meet is contested at the Albuquerque Convention Center and will conclude Saturday afternoon, beginning with women's triple jump trials and finals at 10:10 a.m. (PT) and will finish with the women's 4x400 relay scheduled for 12:50 p.m. (PT).

ON THE TRACK
Sophomores AnnaKay Maitland and Kennedi Porter will represent the Rebels in the women's 60m dash finals tomorrow after finishing sixth and seventh with times of 7.50 and 7.51 in prelims, respectively. 

Porter will be the lone Rebel representative in the women's 200m dash finals event tomorrow after finishing sixth in prelims today with a career best time of 23.92. 

Sophomore distance standout Natalia Ruiz barely missed finals for the women's 1 mile run, finishing 11th with a time of 4:58.16. Junior LaKyla Yazzie finished the indoor season with a career best in the mile (5:14.41), followed by sophomore Jaida Lyles with a personal best of 5:20.52. 

Junior Taylor Shorter finished 11th in the women's 60m hurdles prelim event with a career best time of 8.74, Shorter missed finals by 0.04 seconds. 

Freshman Jana Lakner had a career best time in the women's 400m dash prelims with a 56.19, followed by Endya Scott with a personal best of 56.28. 

Yazzie led the Rebels in the women's 800m run prelims, finishing with a personal best of 2:20.57, followed by sophomore Aitza Romero also with a personal best (2:25.53) and freshman Abigail Danlag who shaved seven seconds off to finish with a career best of 2:30.70. 

ON THE FIELD
Sophomore Erin Thompson tied for fifth place in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.67m (05-05.75), putting the Rebels on the board with 3.5 points. 

Junior Julia Nixon led the Rebels in the women's long jump, finishing with a season best mark of 5.16m (17-00.05). Freshman Camryn Harris followed with a mark of 5.03m (16-06.00) and graduate student Aaliyah Graves came in with a mark of 4.67m (15-04.00).
