Lady Rebels Blow Out Air Force, Win 13th Straight

UNLV flies past Falcons 98-57 Saturday at Clune Arena

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) — Las Vegas builds its reputation on harnessing Lady Luck but the Lady Rebels made their own for a 13th-consecutive victory Saturday afternoon.

UNLV (22-2 overall, 12-0 Mountain West) made quick work of Air Force (12-12, 7-5) in a 98-57 blowout at Clune Arena. It was UNLV's 21st straight win against the Falcons.

For a third straight game, Five Lady Rebels reached double-digit scoring. Kiara Jackson celebrated her 20th birthday with an 18-point outing. That was matched by Justice Ethridge, who shot 8-for-10 from the field.

"Kiara was awesome," UNLV Head Coach Lindy La Rocque said. "There was going to be a lot on our guards, just to handle their pressure and be able to get to the basket. I was hoping this was a game she could be aggressive and get her groove back. And she did."

"She and Essence (Booker) both had really, really good games being tough, steady and finishing baskets and making great plays for their teammates."

The point guard duo combined for 33 points and 11 of UNLV"s 17 assists.

Desi-Rae Young totaled 17 points and 15 rebounds for her fourth consecutive double-double. Essence Booker scored 15 with a career-high-matching seven assists. Alyssa Brown added 12 points.

The Lady Rebels seemed to have no trouble dispatching the Falcons' tendencies.

Air Force entered the game leading the league with 12 steals per contest. They had just two against UNLV. The Falcons averaged 10 offensive rebounds per game. Again, UNLV held them to just two.

"That's part of our scouting report, to know what the other team is trying to focus on doing. With Air Force, it's a lot of pressure and ball-hawking. You can withstand that storm if you play together and play tough. We're proud of that.

"They are a great defensive team, but they couldn't slow us down today."

UNLV held Air Force's starting five to 19 points on 7-of-25 field-goal shooting.

UNLV women's basketball hasn't had a longer streak since winning 18 straight in the 1992-93 season.

"We've kept our focus on the next game. That's the approach we've taken and here we are. That's what we'll continue doing."

UNLV returns home for a 5 p.m. TP tip-off against Fresno State on Thursday, Feb. 9.
