LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — A late home run spoiled the Rebels' rally Saturday in Seattle.
UNLV lost to Montana 5-4 in its third game of the Seattle U Invitational at Logan Field. Back-to-back RBI singles by
Ariana Martinez and
Kelsie Kelso scored three runners in the top of the fifth to tie the score 4-4.
Montana's Kendall Curtis answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. It proved to be the game-winner as UM reliever Grace Haegele retired the side in order in the seventh.
It was a tough pill to swallow for UNLV's
Sabrina Jolin, who took the loss after four innings of relief in which she struck out five and retired 10 of the first 11 batters she faced, aside from one who reached on an error and scored unearned.
Martinez singled to center in the third to score
Janyssa Martin for the Rebels' first run. It closed Montana's three-run lead to two.
It was a Montana base-running error that prevented the deficit from being larger. Kelly Sweyer slugged a home run in the bottom of the first, but overtook Elise Ontiveros during her trot to become the second out.
UNLV has lost four straight games, three by a single run.
UNLV closes the Seattle U Invitational with a game against the host Redhawks at 2:30 p.m. PT on Sunday.
