LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) —
Denise Armendariz and
Ariana Martinez hit back-to-back home runs to rally UNLV into an extra-innings win after Seattle threw everything it had, and then some, at the Rebels on Sunday.
UNLV (14-10) beat Seattle U (19-6) 8-7 after 11 innings and a rain delay at Logan Field in the closing game of the Seattle U Invitational.
Martinez doubled to left center to drive home
Janyssa Martin, who was placed on second base to start for the extra-inning tiebreakers rules).
Jasmine Martin (6-2) then retired three straight batters after giving up two hits to load the bases, sealing the victory.Â
With UNLV trailing 6-4, Armendariz and Martinez blasted solo shots in the top of the seventh. Just as quickly as the Rebels' rally ignited, it was washed out by a 45-minute rain delay.
Seattle opened the game with a 3-run first inning. It wasn't until the fifth that UNLV answered.
Ellie Zellien knocked in a run with an RBI fielder's choice. Then Martin doubles and Armendariz singled to each plate a runner.
UNLV remains in Seattle and will visit No. 10 Washington in a single game on Tuesday.Â
