RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team fell short against UNR by a score of 11-10 during game two of a three-game Mountain West series Saturday night at Peccole Park.
The Scarlet & Gray dropped to 6-11, 2-3 MW, while the Wolf Pack improved its record to 10-9, 2-3 MW.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Kade Higgins went 2-for-5 at the plate with back-to-back home runs, including a two-run shot for the Rebels.
BACK AND FORTH: UNR held a one-run lead going into the top of the third inning before the Scarlet & Gray scored seven runs on seven hits, including a RBI triple from Rylan Charles and Higgins's two-run homer, to take the lead 8-2. The Wolf Pack answered back in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run homer of their own by Matt Clayton and a two-run double by Nolan Wilson to cut UNR's deficit to three.
WALK-OFF WIN FOR UNR: UNLV held a 10-7 advantage going into the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Wolf Pack answered back with a run scored on a fielder's choice, before a RBI double and then a two-run double to end the game.
Dorsey Chatham (3-0) earned his third win of the season after throwing one inning of relief and allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout.
Noah Carabajal (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season after pitching one-third of an inning of relief and allowing one run on two hits.
UP NEXT: UNLV will conclude the series Sunday afternoon at Greater Nevada Field, home of the Reno Aces. First pitch is slated for 1:05 p.m.
