Broncos Rock Rebels To Claim Series

UNLV and Boise State play weekend finale Sunday at noon

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — Kelsey Hall batted in five runs as Boise State run-ruled UNLV 10-0 to claim the conference-opening series Saturday at Eller Media Stadium.

The Rebels and Broncos throw the first pitch in Sunday's series finale at 12 p.m.

Eliyah Flores drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the game's first run in the top of the first. In the next at-bat, Hall blasted a two-out double to the fence to empty the bases as the Broncos started the game with a 4-0 lead.

Alanna Thiede entered the game and held off the Broncos' bats until the fourth. Hall followed Flores' lead-off single with a home run over left center. Then back-to-back doubles put an end to Thiede's day.

Flores led off the fifth with a home run and the Broncos moved another across the diamond to ensure the early victory.

The Rebels swung their bats well but found their hits smacking leather instead of patches of Bermuda. UNLV loaded the bases in the second only for Hailey Schmaltz's lazy fly to hang in the air long enough for Mykenzie Hanna to sprint in from center field. Ariana Martinez's last-ditch effort to break up the mercy rule resulted in a fly out to left field.
