Rebels Drop Sunday's Finale to Boise State

UNLV swept in conference play for first time since 2021

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — Boise State used a seven-run seventh inning to put away UNLV and sweep the conference-opening series.

Boise State (14-10), the Mountain West's preseason favorite, defeated UNLV (14-14) 17-7 Sunday at Eller Media Stadium.

In a repeat of Saturday's first inning, the Broncos scored four runs in the first frame. But the Rebels took advantage of two infield errors to bat through the order and snatch a 5-4 advantage.

The wind picked up and lifted Eliyah Flores fly ball just over the fence for a two-run home run to regain the lead in the third.

UNLV's Kelsie Kelso led off the bottom of the third with a solo home run. However, the Rebels couldn't find outs in the top of the fourth and trailed 14-6. Ariana Martinez' RBI double on the bottom of the fourth took the mercy rule off the board but that would be the final run scored by UNLV.

It was the first time UNLV had been swept since the final conference series of 2021.

UNLV visits UNR in Reno this weekend. The three-game series starts Friday, March 24, at 3 p.m. PT.
