LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — Four home runs powered the Rebels' bats as UNLV (12-6) went 2-for-2 at the Trailblazer Tournament Saturday afternoon in St. George, Utah.
Janyssa Martin's three-run blast was the difference in a 5-2 win over Oregon State.
Hailey Schmaltz batted in five runs in UNLV's 10-3 drubbing of Utah Valley.
The Rebels wrap the tournament with two more games Sunday. UNLV faces Portland at 9 a.m. PT before meeting host Utah Tech at 2 p.m.
Game One: UNLV 5, Oregon State 2
Janyssa Martin homered in the top of the fourth to give the Rebels a four-run lead and UNLV held off Oregon State, 5-2, Saturday at Bloomington Park.
Sofia Morales' RBI-double scored Martin in the third inning. Morales then scored when OSU's Kaiea Higa misplayed
Denise Armendariz's slug to third base.Â
OSU first baseman Abby Doerr batted in both Beaver runs. Doerr hit a solo home run in the third before scoring Eliana Gottlieb with a single in the fifth.
Alanna Thiede (2-1) took the win after allowing just two baserunners in her five innings of relief.Â
Game Two: Â UNLV 10, Utah Valley 3
Hailey Schmaltz plated three baserunners in a five-run second inning as UNLV defeated Utah Valley, 10-3.
Schmaltz's double followed a bases-loaded walk to
Janyssa Martin. Schmaltz scored two batters later by reaching home plate before the Wolverines completed a run-down double-play to end the inning.
The Rebels hit three home runs in the game.
Denise Armendariz led off the third with a moon shot and
Ariana Martinez hit her sixth long ball of the season in the fifth. Schmaltz, a junior, Â bashed the first home run of her career in the sixth to score UNLV's final two runs.
Jessie Fontes (4-2) struck out five batters in 5-â…“ innings in the circle.
