Ruiz and Soetebier Lead Rebels Day One Of Beach Invitational

LONG BEACH, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field program kicked off day one of the Long Beach State Invitational with a hot start on the track from sophomore distance standout Natalia Ruiz and on the field from freshman Jennifer Soetebier. The two-day meet is being contested at Jack Rose Track on the campus of Long Beach State in Long Beach, California.

The Rebels are competing against Mountain West foes Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, UNR, Utah State and Wyoming, as well as nationally ranked BYU, Texas Tech, Iowa, USC, Miami, Michigan and Oklahoma State.

ON THE TRACK
- Ruiz won the women's 10,000m run with a program and meet record time of 34:47.07. The Madrid, Spain native was almost three minutes ahead of second place Texas Tech's Taylor Limbaugh (37:27.43). Ruiz's time ranks among the top 10 in the Mountain West this season.

ON THE FIELD
- Freshman Jennifer Soetebier tied for first in the women's high jump with a personal best mark of 1.66m (5-05.25).
- Graduate student Aaliyah Graves led the Rebels in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.24m (17-02.75), junior Julia Nixon finished with a 5.17m (16-11.25) and freshman Camyrn followed with a mark of 5.01m (16-05.25).
- Graduate student Cassidy Osborne-Butler finished in the top 20 in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 56.29m (184-08.00).

UP NEXT: The Rebels will close out the Long Beach State Invitational Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m., beginning with the women's long jump event.
