LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — What a difference a day makes. UNLV graduate senior
April Visser rebounded from one of her worst collegiate performances with one of her best.
Visser bashed a grand slam in the fifth inning to power UNLV's 13-4 run rule of Utah State Saturday afternoon at Johnson Field in Logan, Utah.
Visser, whose hometown lies 100 miles south near Herriman, Utah, was at home with a 2-for-3, 6 RBI showcase after going 0-for-5 on Friday.Â
The result set up a rubber match for Sunday at 11 a.m. PT. Both the Rebels and Aggies likely must win to stay alive as the race to qualify for the Mountain West Championship Tournament nears the finish line.
UNLV (21-25 overall, 7-12 Mountain West) scored in every inning. Visser's single in the first inning plated two runs before Morales hit an RBI groundout to give the Rebels a 3-0 start for the second straight day.
The Rebels batted 14-of-27 (.519) with five walks.
Ariana Martinez was 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Martinez drove in runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings. Her leadoff home run in the fourth was her Mountain West-leading 12th of the season.
Ellie Zellien held a two-hit shutout until pinch hitter Taryn Edds led off the bottom of the fifth with a full-count home run.Â
