TUCSON, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field program wrapped up the regular season at the Desert Heat Classic Saturday evening. The one-day meet was contested at Drachman Stadium on the campus of Arizona.
The Rebels were the lone Mountain West representatives and competed against the Pac-12's Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Oregon, as well as the SEC's Texas A&M and the Big 12's Iowa.
ON THE TRACK
- Sophomore Shakeira Bowra took eighth in the women's 100m dash with a time of 11.76, just 0.01 ahead of sophomore Kennedi Porter in ninth (11.77). Freshman Jana Lakner ran a season best in the women's 100m dash with a time of 12.17.
- Porter led the Rebels in the women's 200m dash, finishing in 15th with a time of 24.02. Bowra ran a season best with a time of 24.17 and Lakner ran a personal best with a time of 24.45.
- Senior Mackenzie Moss placed fifth in the women's 3000m steeplechase, finishing with a time of 12:30.96.
- Freshman Noelani Mendoza ran a season best in the women's 100m hurdles with a 15.58, only 0.04 seconds off of her personal best.
ON THE FIELD
- Graduate student Cassidy Osborne-butler placed eighth in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 55.74m (182-10.00). Osborne-Butler also took seventh in the women's shot put with a 15.92m (52-04.00).
- Sophomore Erin Thompson finished in eighth in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.68m (05-06.00), followed by freshman Jennifer Soetebier in 10th (1.68m (05-06.00)).
UP NEXT: The Rebels will head over to Fresno, California for the 2023 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships set for Wednesday, May 10 through Saturday, May 13.
