CLOVIS, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field program wrapped up day two of the 2023 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships held in Clovis, California at Veterans Memorial Stadium with four top six finishes, including a second-place finish from sophomore Rosa Santana in the women's shot put.
The three-day meet will conclude Saturday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. with the women's discus throw finals and will finish at 9 p.m. with the women's 4x400m relay.
ON THE TRACK
- Freshman Jana Lakner came in hot for the women's 400m dash prelims, finishing in fifth and securing her spot in the finals with a time of 54.81.
- Sophomore Kennedi Porter secured her spot in the women's 100m dash finals with a personal best time of 11.69, finishing fifth overall. Sophomore Shakeira Bowra also earned a spot in finals after finishing seventh with a time of 11.72. Freshman Ella Hagman and Mendoza finished in the top 20 with times of 12.93 and 13.19, respectively.
- Senior LaKyla Yazzie was the lone Rebel in the women's 1500m run prelim event, finishing in the top 25 with a time of 4:51.99.
- Freshman Noelani Mendoza finished in 11th in the women's 100m hurdles prelims with a time of 19.53.
- Sophomore Jaida Lyles finished in the top 20 for the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:00.96.
ON THE FIELD
- Santana secured the silver medal in the women's shot put event with a mark of 16.97m (55-08.25). Graduate student Cassidy Osborne-Butler placed sixth overall with a mark of 15.55m (51-00.25). Sophomore Roxene Simpson finished in the top 15 with a personal best mark of 13.13m (43-01.00).
- Graduate student Aaliyah Graves led the Rebels in the women's long jump event with a personal best mark of 5.36 (17-07.00), freshman Camryn Harris followed with a mark of 5.20m (17-00.75) and junior Julia Nixon rounded it out for the Scarlet & Gray with a mark of 5.12m (16-09.75).
