Box Score LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team defeated New Mexico 7-5 during game two of a three-game Mountain West series Saturday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
The Rebels improved to 18-26 and 9-14 in the MW, while the Lobos dropped to 24-18 and 11-11 in league play.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Jacob Sharp hit a three-run home run, his ninth homer of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED: UNLV jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning after Sharp's three-run shot followed by two runs brought in by an error on UNM's third baseman. The Lobos answered back in the top of the third with an RBI double from Chase Weissenborn and an RBI single from Dylan Ditzenberger to bring them within three. UNM cut the deficit to two after a solo home run from Reed Spenrath in the top of the fourth, before the Rebels plated another run in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single from Rylan Charles. Spenrath homered again in the top of the sixth followed by an RBI single from Ditzenberger to bring the Lobos within one. Edarian Williams came in to pinch hit for the Rebels in the bottom of the eighth with a sacrifice fly that put UNLV in control of the game.
Josh Sharman (6-1) secured the win for UNLV after throwing 5.2 innings and allowing five runs on six hits.
Jack Sellinger (S,5) earned the save after throwing 3.1 innings of relief and only allowing two hits with four strikeouts.
Tristan Lively (6-3) was saddled with the loss for UNM after allowing six runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings of work.
UP NEXT: UNLV will conclude the series Sunday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
