LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – An unfortunate bounce that led to a second-half goal doomed UNLV women's soccer in a 1-0 loss to Idaho Sunday afternoon at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
Despite the outcome, the Rebels (1-2-1) didn't fail to create scoring opportunities throughout the match as they launched season highs of 11 shots on goal and 29 shots. The Vandals (3-1-0), however, escaped with the fateful score after midfielder Jaydn Sprague capitalized in the 66th minute off a corner kick header that landed in front of her.
Jules Dominguez and freshman
Trinity Buchanan led the Scarlet & Gray with two shots on goal apiece. Joining them in that category, graduate student
Kitty Jones-Black, seniors
Kaitlyn Kowalchuk,
Nailah Harpring and
Mimi Mendoza, junior
Viviana Cera, sophomore
Michelle Madrid and freshman
Cassie Villanueva each placed one shot on frame.
One of UNLV's many scoring chances came within the first 15 minutes when Dominguez struck a ball that ricocheted off the right post and into Vandal goalkeeper Kira Witte's hands.
