OGDEN, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) – Freshman midfielder
Trinity Buchanan's first career brace sparked the UNLV women's soccer team's 2-0 road win over Weber State at Wildcat Soccer Field on Thursday afternoon.
Buchanan, who is the Rebels' (2-2-1) first freshman with multiple goals since the Spring 2021 season, scored at the second-minute and 29th-minute marks as the Scarlet & Gray cruised to victory against the Wildcats (0-5) in its first match as a visitor this year. Her first score came after she corralled a long pass from senior
Haley Halbersma just inside the 18 and her second was on a solo shot as she dribbled toward the box before firing from the left side.
In her first career start, junior goalkeeper
Lucia Guemes earned the victory as she and sophomore
Hanne Breur split time in goal for UNLV's second shutout in the last three matches. The Scarlet & Gray duo and their stingy backline kept WSU from any real scoring chances as they didn't allow a shot on goal during 90 minutes of play.
With their aggressive attack and stout defending, the Rebels walked away with a 10-5 shot advantage, marking their fourth straight outing with double-digit targets.
QUOTABLE: "I'm really proud of our group, our first road win and overall gritty performance. Each game we're making positive growth in preparation for conference play. I'm not only grateful for this amazing group of women, but so happy for them as they continue to achieve success this season."
-UNLV head coach Jenny Ruiz-Williams
UP NEXT: The Rebels return home to Peter Johann Memorial Field for another noon kickoff on Sunday vs. Hawai'i.
