LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV junior safety Jordan Morgan is one of 110 players on the
2023 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, which was unveiled Thursday by the award's organizers.
Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback from the University of Florida, Danny Wuerffel, the Wuerffel Trophy is presented each February. The trophy exists to honor college football players who serve others, celebrate their positive impact on society and inspire greater service in the world.
Morgan is starting his second season for the Rebels after transferring in from Iowa State last fall. The communication studies major is originally from Universal City, Texas, and was also named UNLV's nominee for the AFCA Good Works Team last month after launching his own local non-profit organization, Aspire2Inspire, which was created to promote reading literacy and benefit kids who have lost family members to gun violence.
Morgan is a returning starter who finished fifth on the team with 56 total tackles, ranked second on the squad with six pass breakups and tied for third with two interceptions
Nominations for the Wuerffel Trophy are made by the respective universities' sports information departments. Semifinalists for the award will be announced November 2 and finalists will be announced November 28. The formal announcement of the 2023 recipient will be made December 7-8 and the presentation of the 2023 Wuerffel Trophy will occur in February 2024 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
Offensive lineman Dillan Gibbons of Florida State University was the 2022 recipient of the
Wuerffel Trophy.
The Wuerffel Trophy is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football.
