Rebels Come From Behind On Road To Win Seventh Straight In 3-2 Victory At Wyoming

UNLV improves to 3-0 in Mountain West play after first conference match away from home Thursday night.

LARAMIE, Wyo. (UNLVRebels.com) – For the second time in its last three matches, the UNLV volleyball team came back from a 2-0 deficit to win a match in five sets.

The Rebels (11-4, 3-0) won 3-2 at Wyoming (11-3, 0-3) Thursday night at UniWyo Sports Complex by scores of 18-25, 14-25, 25-18, 25-20, 15-12 for their seventh straight win overall and third in a row to start Mountain West play. 

In its first MW road match of the season, UNLV was led in kills by Isabel Martin with 16 and Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos with 10. Dakota Quinlan had a match-high .571 hitting percentage with eight kills and no errors, along with a career-high-tying nine total blocks. Arien Fafard and Jenna Howard were both in double figures in assists with 29 and 14, respectively, while Fafard had a team-high 10 digs.

The Cowgirls were led by Rylee Schulz' 18 kills, Kasia Partyka's 42 assists and Schulz and Skylar Erickson each with 11 digs.

UNLV out-hit Wyoming .313 to .233 for the match and had 16 blocks to the Cowgirls' eight. There were only four ties and one lead change throughout the match.


UNLV improved to 30-24 all-time against Wyoming and has now won five straight matches over the Cowgirls.

  • The Rebels, who are led by first-year head coach Malia Shoji, returned 11 letterwinners from last season's Mountain West regular-season championship team.

  • UNLV, which has been named the preseason league favorite along with Utah State in a poll voted on by the conference's head coaches, added five new players to their 2023 roster.

  • Isabel Martin was the 2022 Mountain West Player of the Year and was also named the 2023 Preseason MW Player of the Year.

  • Also returning are last season's all-conference honorees: senior outside hitter Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos and senior middle blocker Jordyn Freeman

  • Martin also earned all-region honors last season and was named an honorable mention All-American.

  • UNLV went 26-5 overall in 2022, including a 17-1 record in Mountain West play, and made another NCAA Tournament appearance.
