No. 25 Lady Rebels Dominate 91-55 Over San Jose State

UNLV is 3-0 in Mountain West play for the second straight season

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - For the second straight game, five different Lady Rebels were in double figures as the No. 25 UNLV women's basketball team dominated 91-55 over San Jose State on Wednesday night at the Cox Pavilion. The Lady Rebels have now won 27 straight over Mountain West foes and remain undefeated over the Spartans under head coach Lindy La Rocque (5-0).
 
Desi-Rae Young led the Lady Rebels (13-1, 3-0) with 24 points by shooting 11-for-13 from the field and was 2-for-4 from the free throw line. Young also tied her career-high in steals with four and her season-high in assists with four. Kiara Jackson was the second leading scorer on the squad with 14 points. Alyssa Brown was dominant under the basket and led UNLV in rebounds with 14 (three offensive and 11 defensive).
 
San Jose State (6-9, 1-2) was led by Jyah LoVett with 26 points and Amhyia Moreland with 10 points, respectively.

BIG EARLY LEAD: After the Spartans won the jump ball and scored the first bucket of the game, the Lady Rebels answered back with nine straight points to take a 9-2 lead. UNLV started to get hot on the court with its best scoring run of 11 consecutive points in the first quarter to get ahead 32-8 after 10 minutes of play. The Lady Rebels added 20 more points to the stat sheet and headed into the break up by 30 at 52-22.
 
DEFENSIVE EFFORT: The Lady Rebels held the Spartans to just eight points (4-for-14 field goals and 0-2 three pointers) in the first quarter. UNLV only allowed San Jose State to shoot 38.2% for the game (21 or 55).
 
OTHER NOTES:
  • Alyssa Durazo-Frescas and Amarachi Kimpson each had 12 points.
  • Nneka Obiazor collected 11 points by shooting 4-for-8 from the field and was a perfect 3-for-3 at the free throw line.
  • Ashley Scoggin led the Lady Rebels with a season-high five assists.
  • UNLV out-rebounded San Jose State 47-22.
  • The Lady Rebels forced 18 Spartans' turnovers and collected 22 points off them.
  • UNLV's bench outscored San Jose State's bench 31-10.
  • The Lady Rebels had 22 paint points compared to the Spartans' seven.
  • 32 points in the first quarter is the most this season after the first 10 minutes. It is the second most points in a quarter thus far this season (34 is the season-high in a quarter (third) against Utah Tech on Nov. 14).
