LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV student-athletes have again set department records for academics, the Athletics Department announced Thursday.
The Fall 2023 semester grade point average for all UNLV student-athletes was 3.35, which set the department's record for semester GPA. That also marked a record 13th-straight semester with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
"UNLV's student-athletes continue to demonstrate how hard work and dedication can lead to remarkable results in both the classroom and in competition," said UNLV President Keith E. Whitfield. "Balancing coursework with their commitments as student-athletes is challenging, but they continue to raise the bar and I'm incredibly proud of their record achievements."
Sports that set program records for semester GPA include football (3.22), men's swimming & diving (3.42), women's swimming & diving (3.69) and track & field (3.41).
Programs that set cumulative GPA records include football (3.08), men's swimming & diving (3.26) and women's tennis (3.71).
"We are extremely proud of our student-athletes' success in the classroom," said UNLV Director of Athletics Erick Harper. "Collectively, they continue to put in the work and it is rewarding to see that effort pay off with these academic records. Thank you to our Student-Athlete Academic Services Department, and our coaches and staff, for their continued commitment to our student-athletes' success in both competition and in academics."
In addition, 204 UNLV student-athletes earned Dean's Honor List recognition for Fall 2023. Students must have a 3.5 GPA or higher to be on the Dean's Honor List.
Other academic highlights for the department include:
- 76.1% of UNLV student-athletes had a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher for Fall 2023.
- The cumulative GPA of UNLV student-athletes subsequent to the Fall 2023 semester is 3.29.
- 73.2% of UNLV student-athletes have a cumulative GPA or greater subsequent to the Fall 2023 semester.
- The UNLV student-athlete graduation success rate set a record for the third straight year (88%).
- 169 UNLV student-athletes earned Academic All-Mountain West & Western Athletic Conference Honors.
- 100 UNLV student-athletes earned the prestigious Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award.
