LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Las Vegas native and former Bishop Gorman High School standout Nicco Fertitta has been named UNLV football assistant coach by head coach Barry Odom.

Fertitta, who spent last season as a defensive analyst for the Rebels, will now oversee the safeties for the defending Mountain West regular-season co-champions.

"We are excited for Nicco to join our staff in this role," said Odom. "Both his experience as a player and the work that he has done in the past year here is substantial. He has great knowledge of our program and our current roster, which will provide a positive transition for our student-athletes and staff. Nicco's tireless work ethic has been infectious in our building and he will continue to help this program move forward as we chase championships."

Born and raised in Las Vegas, Fertitta was a star defensive back at national powerhouse Bishop Gorman before becoming a four-year letterman at Notre Dame from 2015-18 and graduating from the South Bend, Indiana, university in 2019. He would begin his coaching career as a defensive backs coach at his alma mater, Bishop Gorman, before joining head coach Brian Kelly's staff at LSU as a defensive graduate assistant coach for the SEC school. Fertitta then returned home a year ago to join Odom's first staff in Las Vegas.
