BOISE, Idaho (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's basketball team jumped back into the win column after earning an 84-63 victory at Boise State on Wednesday night at ExtraMile Arena.
Desi-Rae Young led the Lady Rebels (16-2, 6-1 MW) with her 43
rd career double-double and eighth of the season of 25 points and 11 rebounds (seven offensive, four defensive). Young shot 11-for-19 from the field, 1-for-1 from the three-point line and 2-for-2 at the free throw line. She added three assists to the stats sheet, one steal and a block.
Alyssa Durazo-Frescas added 16 points by shooting 5-for-7 from the field, 4-for-6 from behind the arc and 2-for-3 at the free throw line.
Ashley Scoggin and
Nneka Obiazor each collected 14 points. Obiazor was a spark of the bench with her 14 points and eight rebounds.
The Broncos (13-7, 4-3 MW) had three players in double-figures and were led by Natalie Pasco with 21 points. Mya Hansen put up 12 points while Dani Bayes had 10 points, respectively.
CONTROLLED FROM THE START: The Lady Rebels scored back-to-back baskets to start the game and take an early 4-0 lead. To end the first quarter, UNLV held an 11-5 lead and were just heating up. UNLV turned up the heat and scored 12 straight points to take a double-digit lead early in the second quarter. The Lady Rebels did not let up and went into the half up 15 at 34-19. Following the break, UNLV got real hot increasing the advantage and headed into the final frame with a 21-point lead, 60-39. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Rebels stayed in control and earned the 21-point road victory.
DEFENSIVE EFFORT: UNLV held Boise State to a 21.4 shooting percentage for the first half only allowing 19 points in the first 20 minutes. The Lady Rebels held the Broncos to a 38.3 shooting percentage for the entire game.
OTHER NOTES
- McKinna Brackens made her first collegiate start and won the jump ball of the tip-off. Brackens brought down a career-high seven rebounds.
- UNLV out-rebounded Boise State 42-28.
- The Lady Rebels dominated the paint and scored 44 of their 84 points inside the paint.
- UNLV shot 48.5% (32-for-66) from the field and 50% from the three-point line (9-for-18).
- The Lady Rebels dished 16 assists and were led by Kiara Jackson with six.
