LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving dominated the opening session of their meet vs. UC Santa Barbara and Wyoming with wins in 15 events Friday at Jim Reitz Pool.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
*In a breakout 1650 free victory, Olson moved into second all-time in program history with her NCAA 'B' cut time of 16:30.55. It was also an 18.48-second drop from her previous personal best.
*In the 100 back, freshman
Dominika Trentkiewicz kept the tide moving with a winning time of 54.77 seconds.
*Charging to a wall-to-wall 200 fly victory, senior
Blanka Bokros finished with a first-place mark of 1:58.61. Just two spots behind her, junior
Cameron Mykkanen (2:00.77) finished third with the school's sixth all-time best mark.
*In the 100 free, freshman Fernanda Mendez Guerra's victory in 49.18 seconds marked the second-fastest time ever by a UNLV women's swimmer. She came within six-hundredths of a second of the program record.
*Pulling off a come-from-behind win in the 200 IM, senior
Calysta Bartlett overtook Wyoming's Carly Palmer on the final leg with a 28.42 split for an overall time of 2:02.77.
*The Rebel relay 'A' team of junior
Pilar Cohen, sophomore
Averi Webb, junior
Bridget Sullivan and Mendez Guerra won with a season-best 1:31.62.
*Winning the 1-meter competition, freshman
Chelsey Dorosh scored a 250.05. She also took second on the 3-meter springboard (268.43).
*
Vika Yanovska tallied a second-place finish and junior
Jenna Walch (236.85) a third-place finish on the 1-meter (246.45) as part of a Scarlet & Gray 1-2-3 sweep of the event.
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
*The Rebel men's 'A' squad (3:10.82) led from wire-to-wire in the 400 medley relay as
Wikus Potgieter,
Adnan Beji,
George Ratiu and Cam Castro combined to finish nearly three seconds ahead of UCSB in second place.
*Wrapping up a Rebel sweep of both 100 back races, freshman Wikus Potieger swam a 47.54 for the fourth UNLV victory of the day.
*Junior
Adnan Beji notched his ?? win in the 100 breast this season, clocking a time of 53.?? seconds.
*In a tight 200 fly finish, redshirt freshman
Colby Raffel swam a second-place time of 1:47.90, which was within five-hundredths of a second of first place.
*Ratiu took control of his 100 free win from the beginning, finishing with a 43.42 seconds as UNLV had the day's top-3 fastest times. Notching respective second-place and third-place times, Castro sped to a 44.25-second finish and senior
Steven Butler raced to a 44.01.
*Giving the Scarlet & Gray a sweep of both 200 IM races, senior
Cooper Kiel opened with a quick 23.54 butterfly split on the way to his first-place finish (1:47.94).
*Teaming up to complete the double sweep of the men's and women's 200 free relays by the Rebels, the 'A' quartet of junior
Bryson Huey, Ratiu, Castro and Butler placed first (1:19.07).
*Freshman Alex Vazquez made his home debut with a sweep of first place in the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
*In his final home competition, senior
Jamie Spilchak finished second on the 1-meter springboard (291.68) and third on the 3-meter springboard (292.43).
*Assisting in a complete 1-2-3 Rebel sweep of both diving events, junior
Dima Tereshchenko added a second-place finish on the 1-meter (350.18) and third-place finish on the 3-meter (286.58).
