LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV swimming and diving received three weekly awards as senior George Ratiu and freshman Alex Vazquez swept the respective WAC Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, while Ava Olson was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the conferences announced Wednesday.

Originally from Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Ratiu enjoyed an undefeated weekend in his events to help lead the Rebels to a sweep of their double dual vs. UC Santa Barbara and Wyoming. As an individual, he won both the 50 free (19.84) and 100 free (43.42). Additionally, Ratiu guided the Rebel relay squads to victories in the 200 medley relay (1:26.18), 400 medley relay (3:10.82), 200 free relay (1:19.07) and 400 free relay (2:54.60).

Vazquez, a native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, made his home debut with a sweep of first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. The Scarlet & Gray rookie tallied NCAA Zone qualifying scores with a 301.50 on the 1-meter springboard and a 367.20 on the 3-meter springboard.

Notching her own 2-0 outing, Olson contributed wins in the 1650 free and 400 IM in the Rebel women's squad's meet sweep over the Cowgirls and Gauchos. In the 1650 free, she swam the top time by a freshman in the Mountain West this season (16:30.55), moved into second all-time in program history and had an NCAA 'B' cut time. Olson then added her second first-place finish in the 400 IM (4:22.25).
