LOS ANGELES (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's and women's swimming teams won six events despite suffering defeat to a pair of nationally ranked USC squads Saturday at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
In the men's standings, the Rebels came up short to the No. 15 Trojans by a 146.5-110.5 final tally. On the women's side, the Scarlet & Gray was topped by the No. 4 Trojans, 175-82.
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
*Getting UNLV on the board in the win column, senior Cam Castro finished first in the 200 free with a time of 1:38.62.
*Adding to the Scarlet & Gray victory count, junior
Adnan Beji (54.18) edged USC's Chris O'Grady by .22 seconds for first place in the 200 breast.
*Junior Mike Breitbart (1:53.06) earned a win in the 200 IM as the Rebels were the only team to contest the event. With the Trojans exhibitioning, redshirt freshman
Colby Raffel (1:53.52) and senior
Cooper Kiel (1:54.55) followed in second and third, respectively.
*Claiming first place outright with the fastest 200 free relay of the day, the UNLV 'A' squad of junior
Bryson Huey (20.57), senior
George Ratiu (19.94), Castro (19.99) and senior
Steven Butler (20.25) combined for a time of 1:20.75. Their finish was nearly six-tenths of a second quicker than the top USC mark in the meet.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
*In another event that was only scored for the Rebels, senior
Madison Petschauer's 200 IM time of 2:10.17 gave her a first-place finish. Finishing close behind her were sophomore
Jillian Moses (2:10.77) in second and freshman
Viola Teglassy (2:15.93) in third.
*Wrapping up the win total in the 200 free relay, the Scarlet & Gray 'A' team of juniors
Bridget Sullivan (24.35) and
Pilar Cohen (23.66), sophomore
Averi Webb (23.76) and senior
Malia Fernandez (23.73) clocked a 1:35.50 as USC exhibitioned the race.
