UNLV Downs Spartans In Four Sets

SAN JOSE, Calif. (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV volleyball aimed to cap the weekend on a high note, competing in their final match of the weekend in California on Saturday against San Jose State. 
 
The Rebels (10-7, 3-3 MW) overcame the Spartans (9-3, 4-2)on a four set win, pushing the line score to 25-22, 21-25, 25-19 and 26-24. The Scarlet & Gray finalized the game with a .234 hitting percentage, hitting as high as .333 in the third set.
 
 
UNLV's serves notched their highest amount of service aces in a single match since the shortened 2020 season, the program totaling 14 service aces in the four-set win. Caleigh King and Arien Fafard combined for eight of the team's marks, each serving four. Dakota Quinlan tallied three free points of her own, Livvy Setla finding two that came back-to-back during the match.
 
King also led the charge for the Rebels on defense, the sophomore libero finding 16 digs for a team-high out of their 53 in the match. King's total marked her third time in the last four matches with at least 16 digs, Fafard being the next Rebel up with eight. Rheanna Deen-Jackson collected six total blocks in the front row for UNLV, the freshman duoing with Alondra Alarcon as the only two on the roster to register a solo block. Deen-Jackson found five block assists on day with five other Rebels totaling a pair of block assists.
 
The offense was led by Alarcon, the junior transfer averaging a hitting rate of .478 on 23 attempts in the match, tallying 11 kills for a team-high. Chloe Thomas would join her in double-digits as the senior rallied 10 of her own, Quinlan and Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos each garnering eight kills against the Spartans. Fafard and Olivia Mikkelsen combined for 35 of the Rebels' 43 set assists, the former leading with 19 and the latter totaling 16.
 
UP NEXT
The Scarlet & Gray will travel back to Las Vegas and host a pair of home matches next weekend, first taking on Wyoming and then battling Colorado State. Their match against Wyoming will serve as their Mental Health Awareness Night on Thursday, Oct. 17, the first serve kicking off at 6:30 p.m. PT.
